Teaching Yourself to Plan your Spending

By Paul J. Easton

With more marketing hypes now then ever, we are more indulged into heavy consumerism. With this phenomenon, more people are tempted to acquire debts beyond their capacity to pay. Debt is simply responsibility and we are getting more irresponsible.

Debt mismanagement is becoming a common household concern. Management of our finances and financial literacy has certainly become a very big dilemma. With growing debts and the looming financial misfortunes in the near future, one must consider debt relief if needed.

With today's great demand for debt relief, there are already many options to help us with our financial troubles. But educating oneself is still the best defense and the key to our survival in this financial crunch.

Educating yourself is definitely your first base in helping yourself. It all starts with realization.

Realization is stopping the use of your credit cards for your shopping impulses. Whatever situation you will enter, you need stringent self imposition of stopping yourself from wild shopping sprees.

Your situation right now demands that you give up your credit cards temporarily or if without reform, then permanently. Have some restraint with yourself and make this move a main priority. And work your butt off to persistently continue until you get out of this financial situation. To regain control over your finances is like taming a beast and finally achieving freedom when reaching your goal.

If you can't handle this yourself, go get a guide with professional help. In many cases, most experts design a plan for some of their clients. This plan will have some methods for retention with the original plan. This works out best to let you stick with the spending plan to get their debt under control.

A spending plan is a simple guide with your income and your expenses and everything in between. This plan illustrates in detail how much money you have and how much money you spend at a time frame with priorities. Sticking to a realistic spending plan allows one to be motivated and be guided to a certain goal. And that goal is to pay off your debts. Much better if you can save for the proverbial rainy day.

Educating yourself is one thing and creating and sticking with the plan is another. This is just how simple debt relief can become. Learn from your mistakes and be smart with money. After all, money will only stick when you have a plan for it. So observe, learn, and keep your money.

Make The Most Of Low Interest Rate Credit Cards

By Charlie Utter

Low interest rate credit cards are among the most desirable credit cards available. However, only those with excellent or very good credit will be eligible to receive these cards. You can think of the low interest rates attached to these cards as a reward which is earned through managing money responsibly. If you qualify for one of these cards, you will enjoy benefits which include:

*Up 5% cash rebates on select goods *No annual fees *0% APR for up to 15 months on some credit cards *Interest rates as low as 7.99% after the intro period has expired *Your choice of rewards categories

These are just a few of the benefits available to the users of these credit cards. If your credit history is string, then you can choose from a lot of different offers. Credit card companies prefer cardholders who pay their bills on time each month and keep their balances to less than 50% of their credit limit. Look at our site map to see many different credit card offers.

Any time youre looking at credit card offers, you should make a point of thoroughly reading the terms and conditions of the card (the perks may be great, but read the fine print too!). This helps you decide on the low APR credit card which most closely meets your needs. All of the major card issuers, such as Discover, American Express and Chase Manhattan offer low APR credit cards to those who meet their criteria.

So how good is your credit history? If your credit rating is excellent or close to excellent, then you can take advantage of the incredible rewards programs that Chase, Merrill Lynch, Capital One and discover provide to people who use their credit cards; and a great reason for keeping your credit rating high.

Managing your money with care is something which deserves to be rewarded. Credit card issuers recognize that it can be difficult to make all of your payments on time every month and to fight the temptation to overspend with your credit cards. Credit card companies are happy to show their appreciation for responsible cardholders by offering them low APR credit cards.

As if a low interest rate wasnt already good enough, these offers provide cardholders with rewards programs which make a good thing even better, such as cash back (sometimes as high a 0%) on select purchases from retailers all over the country and travel rewards. Travel rewards let you earn points which are redeemable for travel expenses such as car rentals, plane tickets, hotels and more!

So what kind of shape is your credit in? Request a copy of your credit report and find out where you stand. If you have excellent or very good credit, then you can qualify for a low APR credit card and gain the benefits which are due to you as a responsible consumer.

Manage Your Credit Card

By Amanda Somrekli

There are several other things you should watch for in fine print. One of the most onerous is that if you are reported as delinquent on any other account, with any creditor, this creditor can raise your APR, in what as known as "universal default."

You should also note whether "disputes on the account are subject to binding arbitration," which would mean that you have no legal recourse against the card issuer, who selects and pays the arbitrator.

Other onerous clauses include lumping balance transfer fees in with purchases, and charging interest on them as if they were purchases, and splitting APR between purchases and cash advances, and applying your payments only to the transactions with lower interest rates, thus charging you more over time.

You can also use the bad credit card application in order to get a unsecured credit cards which are given way without having to provide a bank deposit though cost of using such cards is little higher. An New Millennium Bank Secured Gold application too can prove to be an ideal solution for people that have an especially low credit score.

If you are up to eliminate your credit cards debt, but you still want to use a card and run an effective credit repair and credit rebuilding at the same time, then you should consider opening secured cards. Even if your credit score is poor you can always apply for a secured card, and try to keep the balance relatively low.

The best way to look at what each offer is giving you is to read the back of the offer and not just the front page that summarizes their incentives. The back summary will tell you the APR (Annual Percentage Rate), any annual fees required, fees for balance transfers, what kind of minimum monthly payment they require, and what their rewards or benefits are.

Remember, signing up for the credit cards are the easy part. There are so many companies out there just waiting to get more customers. The key is to find the one that fits your financial needs and you understand the terms of the agreement you are signing on to.

You will get 24-Hour Concierge Service with your card. In addition, you also receive priority pass with your credit account. The Priority Pass is the world's largest independent airport VIP lounge program, making it possible for you to access more than 500 airport lounges in over 90 countries worldwide.

The Black credit card is not for everyone. This card is designed for folks who are looking for a luxury offer that is not available to the mass public. The spending power of this card is designed for the elite few who can actually take advantage of it.

Try a student credit card: If you're attending college, try a student credit card. As long as you're attending college, you'll be eligible for this card. You won't need any credit nor will you need to show any credit history, etc. This is your best bet as a younger adult.

Why Must I Try For A 700 Credit Rating

By Frank Froggatt

It's kind of discomfiting that to the government and other establishments we are recognized a just a number.Whenever you go down to apply for a loan or a credit line you can see the truth exposed in that if you don't possess a high enough number you won't get the money you require.

What though is a credit score? A credit score is merely a way of rating a person based on their past to find out whether they will be dependable enough to pay off the loan that they are requesting. Credit scores for the most part range from between 340 to 800 and if you score isn't at least around the 700 range you can either count on paying a higher interest rate if it does get authorized or if it is too low being denied altogether.

This may not seem like a fair system since you really, really need the money but it is the only way that a bank can be sure of your reliability.Whether you like it or not, you have to go along with them and sign the documents if you want the money.

There are many Americans in the United States who possess good credit scores. The cause of these good credit scores is the basics of not over spending and paying their bill on time.

But for those who don't score well, they have to find a way to make ends meet by cutting down on their expenses and paying these debts gradually..A good idea will be to talk to your creditor about the situation so they can come up with a payment plan so this will never appear on their permanent record. If you've had a reasonable credit score and you don't want to see it destroyed then this is probably the best decision for you.

If you have many credit cards, you should cancel the others and only keep one. Be certain that you get rid of all the newest cards and only keep the the oldest card for this will reflect better on your credit report.

A frequently made mistake most often by people without a very long credit history is to open credit accounts unnecessarily. You just have to think smart to see if it is worth the risk.

You should absolutely keep close tabs on your credit score but if it is just under the 700 mark you better make darn sure that everything on it is correct that little difference below the sweet spot can cost you thousands in interest You could very well find an error on your report that is enough to throw your score over that wonderful number 700. If you do find a mistake you must get a hold of the credit agency and let them know about it. This is called filing a dispute. Send them all of the proof of the error so that they can successfully investigate the error and get it corrected for you.

In order to get your credit score you will need to pay for it but you can get your report for free which is all you need to find out if there are any errors. Contact Equifax,Transunion, or Experian for your report, these are the 3 credit bureaus that monitor all reported credit transactions. It doesn't really matter which agency you get your report from as all the information should be about the same for each even though they each score a little differently than the others. This changes yearly so get another in one year and compare the results versus the year before..

With the much coveted credit score of 700 or higher you most invariably qualify for the lowest interest rates available. With that money, you can buy a new house or car, pay for college tuition or renovate your home. If you want to get it, then you have to work for it as this number won't appear out of thin air.

Before you even go in to apply for a loan you should be aware of what your credit score is.Being aware of your score will save you any undo embarrassment in the event of issues on your credit report.

Roth IRA vs. Traditional IRA

By Jack Jones

In 1997 the Roth IRA was developed in order to encourage people to plan for their own future rather than relying solely on the social security system.

Traditional IRA's and Roth IRA's have many common traits, but their are also many differences btween the two. It is important to be aware of them when deciding which is the right fund for you, so I will discuss briefly a few of them.

The funds contributed to a traditional IRA are tax deductible meaning that you can deduct the amount you contribute to the fund from your income while filing your tax return papers. In a Roth IRA you are not able to deduct the contributions from your income.

A traditional IRA allows for a few penalty free withdrawals, but they have very strict rules and can only be taken advantage of in very specific circumstances. This is a bit frustrating because you can not access your earnings until you retire.

The Roth IRA is much more loose with the withdrawal allowances. After five years you are allowed to withdraw the funds contributed.

The looseness of the Roth IRA has led some to use it as an emergency account for unexpected costs. After the 5 years, you can use it for emergencies and if there are none then you have a good start toward retirement.

Whatever your circumstances are, you should consider these facts before opening a retirement account.

The Seriousness of Strict Personal Finance & Retirement Planning

By Steven Griggs

If you do not have a retirement plan, you better get busy and start one. If you want to retire at a good age, you will need to have money put back, because even if there is still Social Security, it will not be enough to cover all of your needs, at least not for the average person.

You have to plan for your future with our spouse, or if you have none then just for yourself. You need to be aware of your personal finances and be smart about saving and investing them. There are so many people who ignore how important retirement planning is or they wait until it is too late to put enough money back.

There are many types of retirement plans out there like 401Ks, IRAs, a target retirement fund, and these are just a few. Talk to a financial advisor and figure out how much money you will need to save in order to retire and live comfortably during your retirement.

This is why it is so important to start planning for your retirement as early as possible. Below is a way to help you to calculate how much money you will need to save each year in order to have enough to live on when you retire.

The most important thing is that you realize that you need to start planning for retirement and put the ball in motion. Just as you take care of your personal finances such as savings and your checking account this too needs to be monitored by you. Make sure you are getting the best options on your retirement plan.

Estimate what your yearly requirement will be after retirement. This is usually between 65% to 100% of your terminal income. Calculate the yearly retirement and social security benefits you expect to use once you retire. Subtract these benefits from the yearly requirement that you calculated above.

You may be just starting a family and just buying a home, retirement is far from your mind, but think of it like a life insurance plan you are protecting your future and your spouse's future. This is just as important to plan for your future as to plan for that of your child. Take control of your retirement now.

Affects of Bad Credit

By Karen M. T. Stone

Many people grow up never learning or understanding the value of money. Their parents don't teach them because they were never taught either. This can cause a lot of problems for them and in some cases ruin their lives. How does this happen?

People that don't understand money spend it without thinking. The spend all their money mindlessly on things they don't really need and they never think about the consequences. Eventually, when they have no more money, they turn to credit cards.

When shopaholics get their hands on a credit card, bad things happen. They charge everything to it and only pay the minimum payment. This leads to interest and all the debt begins to pile up. Soon they are unable to even make the minimum payment. This can lead to thousands of dollars in debt and possibly bankruptcy.

This kind of situation and many others lead to bad credit. Bad credit leads to a lot of trouble. If you think bad credit isn't a big deal, think again. It will cause problems that will be very hard to fix. When you borrow money from someone and say you will pay them back but don't, you're not going to get away with it.

You don't get a slap on the wrist when you miss a payment, but it is likely to affect you poorly in the future. If you have bad credit history and a bad credit score, the next time you go to apply for a loan, it will be very hard if not, impossible. Lenders will not lend you money if you have very bad credit, and if they do, you will be charged a very high interest rate.

When someone is lending money to someone else, they are taking a big risk. If they don't know that you'll pay them back, why should they lend it? That's why they look at your credit. If you don't have any credit, you will have trouble getting a loan, and will most likely not be able to get a large loan such as a mortgage without a cosigner.

A cosigner is someone who can really help you out. If you have no credit, you can find someone who has good credit. If they are willing to, they will cosign with you and you will be able to get the loan based on their credit. If you get the loan and you stop paying, the cosigner will have to pay or else their credit will be damaged. This is why it is not easy to find a cosigner, especially if you have bad credit.

If you can't seem to pay your bills, in order to keep your credit from going down hill, you need to be proactive. Come up with a plan and a budget to live by. Cut out expenses you don't really need so that you can pay our bills. Do whatever you can to pay off your debt.

How to Save Your Finances and Your Credit in 2009

By Linda Seamore

As we begin the New Year, the nation's economy is crumbling. It is becoming apparent that protecting your finances is extremely important in addition to protecting your identity. To get you off on the right foot, we have listed several tips and suggestions to get your financial house in order.

1. Separate Needs from Wants. Financial security and independence relies heavily on being a smart spender. Don't, for example, eat out when you can cook at home. Eating is a need but eating out is a want. Being thrifty is truly a necessity. Pay close attention to discounts for things you need, and clip coupons whenever possible.

2. Have 6 months of living expenses in Savings. Take account of your monthly bills, including groceries and gas, and save 6 months of these in a savings account for a rainy day. It's very easy to save a little every month from your paycheck and put it into an account that may be difficult to get into. This will become your emergency fund and should only be touched in emergencies ( i.e. someone looses their job). If you must dig in, be sure to replace it immediately.

3. Begin paying off your debt. Start with the highest interest bearing loans, like personal loans and credit cards and begin paying them off. These you should take care of BEFORE you begin saving any money. The interest accrued on these loans can be staggering over time and will save you money in the long run if you pay them off first.

4. It has become increasingly more important to protect your identity. Identity theft is becoming the favorite crime among criminals. It is estimated that it costs victims of identity theft over 5 billion dollars a year to pay for identity theft. However, identity theft protection is now offered with services like Life Lock. Life lock guarantees the protection of your credit backed by a $1,000,0000 payment to you fit they don't. They will help reduce the number of credit card offers you receive and will actively monitor you credit.

5. To discourage dipping into your savings needlessly, put your savings into CDs, money markets or other tax deferred accounts. If you dont have access to the money, you wont deplete it needlessly.

6. Get on a budget and stay on it no matter what. This is really simple to do. Label some jars or boxes with things like "savings" "eating out" or "entertainment". Every payday, put $50 in each jar. That will be your allowance for that category until the next payday. When ever the money from one of the jars is used, you simply move to the next jar until you reach the next payday and can replenish. This sounds tough but it can pay off, literally.

The status of the current economy is awful, but that isn't a secret. Therefore, we must look for ways to protect ourselves and our financial situation so that we don't need the kind of financial assistance that some of the big companies have needed. Don't let any of that nonsense happen to you this year. Keep a budget, look for deals, and spend smart!

If you are careful with your money, you will not require a bailout in 2009. Hey, maybe we can become the example and teach the major corporation CEOs how to do this.

The Right Auto Financing

By John Brennan

Finding the perfect car is easy, however, finding the perfect car loan can be a little more difficult. Dealer finance departments and personal banks all have differing details when it comes to financing your new set of wheels, and knowing how a car loan works is the best way to make sure youare getting the most for your money.

A lot of companies will encourage people to sign a car contract by offering them pretty good auto loan deals. For a car, financing and other installment contracts are actually quite similar. They are amortized throughout a certain already decided duration of time.

Once you submit your application and personal history of your credit, the lender there will underwrite your loan and determine what your interest rate should be based on your credit history. The higher the credit history, the lower the interest rate will be.

Once the interest rate is calculated for the person, it becomes an immediate addition to the new car's payments. Depending on the rate of interest, $383.00 would be added to the original price for the car ($23,000 for example). Then, for five years following the deal, the person must pay $383.00. Some people may not be able to afford the car because of the interest rate.

Of course, if you have liquidated funds to put toward the purchase at the start of the contract you will ultimately pay less in interest charges because you have put some equity into your purchase from the start. Since interest is compounded monthly on the balance of your note, the best of the best in auto loan deals is to put down as much money as you can, or to pay off your note earlier than the specified date. This can save you thousands of dollars in interest charges.

Your expenses for a vehicle donat begin and end with monthly payments and interest charges however. Law requires adequate car insurance, and when purchasing a new vehicle many major insurers like Allstate and Geico will require that you carry both liability and comprehensive coverage on your new car, which can mean added monthly charges as well. Getting a quote from your insurance company before you purchase is highly recommended in order to have an affordable payment in mind.

When you buy a car, you must understand that it will lose its value eventually. Therefore, the money you pay for the interest rate could be a waste. It is important to finance less and put more money in your car to ultimately save cash in the long run.

It is wise to save money beforehand instead of buying your car right away so that you can find the right auto loan deals for any kind of auto finance. If you do not want to deal with expensive auto loans and interest rates, you should save cash before purchasing the car.

What you should know about the new Bankruptcy means test

By Josh Ramos

If you feel that you may need to declare bankruptcy in order to solve your debt problems, you may be worried about the recent bankruptcy law. Many have made the assumption that they no longer qualify because of the recent changes in the bankruptcy code.

There are definitely some changes that you need to be aware of, including the so called means test. This can help determine whether you can file chapter seven bankruptcy.

When it comes to bankruptcy, it seems like there's been an ongoing battle between creditors and debtors for a long time. In the U.S., for example, there have been a series of bankruptcy laws during our history which sometimes benefited the creditors and sometimes the consumer. Recently, a law was passed by Congress as a result of extensive lobbying by the credit card industry.

The purpose of the law is supposedly to make sure that bankruptcy is not being abused by people who simply don't want to pay their debts. The main provision of the new law was the means test, which makes consumer show all income and expenses in order to prove the bankruptcy really is needed. In other words, the question is whether you have the means to pay off your debts.

The first thing you should know is how your income compares to other people's income in your own state. If your income is below the median income of your state, then you don't even have to worry about that means test. This makes sense, of course, because if you have a lower income you're less likely to be able to afford your debts.

If your income is higher, however, you'll have to go through the annoying process of calculating all of your income and expenses. Based on this, the court will determine whether you can afford to pay both your necessary expenses and your consumer debt.

This more tedious process is one of the results of the bankruptcy reform law passed in recent years. If the court determines that you make too much money, you may be forced to pay part or all of your debt (though you'll probably be given a repayment plan as part of a chapter 13 bankruptcy).

The good news is that many people will still qualify for bankruptcy, even though the process itself has become more complex. You simply need to have good legal advice to guide you through the difficult maze.

Personal Loans With Bad Credit

By Kevin Davidson

Many people have gone through the same thing, they have a job and they need money but they can not get a loan. Sometimes it is for school, other times it is for a business, and sometimes they just need money to make ends meet. So what happened? Why can't they get a loan? The answers may surprise you.

Our public school system is flawed. We are taught math science history but no business and no personal finance. This is a major flaw that needs to be corrected but for now let's fix your problem. If you missed the chance to learn personal finance like most people at an early age then it is time to learn now.

In fact as you spent away the money buying food, designer jeans, and other forms of entertainment you were also missing the occasional payment and have now defaulted on at least one card. This causes major damage to your credit history and makes it so that the only loans you can get are bad credit personal loans.

Well life could be worse. If this is the biggest problem you face then do not fret and worry. Chill out and go get al of your credit card statements and any other unpaid bills you have. Be honest and even add in your gambling debts if you have any. You want a full history so that you can try and get something other then a bad credit personal loan with high interest. Once you have done that order a full credit history report.

Once you have the report in hand see if everything is in alignment. Do you really owe all that money? Hopefully your credit history has some errors and you can call and get it all sorted out. If you can not then it is time to start fixing your credit history.

Now go through and pay any small debts that you can. You may have two hundred dollars at thirty percent interest. Pay that off and move to the next debt and so on. After a while you will have paid off all of your high interest debt and you can focus on what is usually the biggest but lowest charging debt.

Often times just these steps can save you thousands of dollars on previous debt and on your bad credit personal loan. If this is working then you can get a loan without showing your bad credit and therefore paying a high interest payment.

Of course if you still have a bad credit score then you can apply for a bad credit personal loan and you will be able to get at least some of the money you need. Going forward it is important that you realize that your credit history is important and that messing it up can and will cost you a lot of money and future opportunities.

How to Save Money on Healthy Food

By Tina Bottle

Healthy food is generally more expensive than junk food. If you bought a couple pounds of fresh broccoli it would probably cost more than a bag of potato chips. Then again, a half gallon of ice cream probably costs more than a package of strawberries. You need to know what healthy really is before you can say it's too expensive.

Have you ever seen lean hot pockets or those healthy choice prepackaged meals? They are usually more expensive than tv dinners and regular hot pockets. To be honest, they are healthier but still not that healthy compared to their fresh counterparts, which are probably cheaper than both alternatives.

Instead of bringing a prepackaged healthy choice lunch or a hot pocket of any kind, eat leftovers of a healthy mean from the night before, make a sandwich, or make a fresh salad. They are cheaper than both the "healthy" or "not healthy" alternative and probably healthier than both, too.

Healthy food also fills you up faster. When you get filled up faster, you don't need to eat as much. How often have you eaten 2 cookies and had to go back for a third, fourth, fifth, etc. Now tell me how often you've eaten and apple and even had to go back for a second.

Is fresh produce just too expensive? Why not try growing your own? You could plant a small garden with a small variety of vegetables and grow a fruit tree. This could save you quite a bit of money over time and be a fun hobby.

You can also buy produce from a farmer's market during the right season and often get a cheaper price for better quality. Also, eating vegetables doesn't mean you have to get fresh produce. Frozen vegetables are great too and often much cheaper.

You could easily spend at least the same amount on your new healthy diet and foods than you did eating junk food. In the long run you would still save money because you would be healthier and not get sick as often.

If you don't get sick you don't have to go to the doctors or pay for medicine. Even with insurance, you usually have to pay a co-pay at the doctors and you aren't insured for over the counter medicine. Eat healthy and save money!

Top 3 Business Mistakes that Kill your Profit

By Susan Carter

Have you ever wished that you knew ahead of time how to avoid mistakes that will cost you money? Do you realize that when it comes to your business, these mistakes can cost you thousands of dollars? Well my goal is to help you. I can tell you how to avoid some of the most costly mistakes so that you stay on the right track to making money, instead of losing money.

1. Not setting up your business in the correct Business Structure. Many new business owners dont think they need to set up their company as a legal business entity because it's only them working. They dont think its a problem to combine their business accounts with their personal accounts. Regrettably, this mixing of money and expenses causes a huge problem for the new business owner. If they keep their business and personal activity separate, they present to the taxing authorities (Uncle Sam) an obvious picture that they are functioning as a business and not as a hobby.

Remember, when banks lend to individual sole proprietors its considered a personal loan and is reported to the personal credit bureaus like Equifax. By setting up your business as a corporation, partnership or LLC, the lending institutions will report your business creditworthiness to the business credit bureaus, and your FICO scores are not affected - if you used your Employer ID number (EIN) on the account with the lender. You will also look more professional in the eyes of a bank or other financial institution if you are set up as a business entity.

2. Not presenting your business as an established business. This means your business has its own address and own phone number. That doesnt mean you cant work out of your home, it means that to the business credit world you must show your business as having its own address. Your business absolutely must be listed in the national 411 directory. Small business owners sometimes use their cell phone number as their business phone number. Unfortunately, a cell phone number is not acceptable for most financial institutions. A lender calls 411 to verify a business and expects to find a specific address and matching business phone number. They dont want to see P.O. boxes or UPS addresses. If you run your business out of your home, it must be a separate phone line that appears in the 411 directory as belonging to the address listed in the 411 directory. It must match the address listed with the State in which the business is registered because the financial institutions will also go onto the States website and verify the business information.

3. Not checking your credit report. You know how important it is to regularly check your personal credit reports to make sure there are no mistakes on them, but it is also important that you check your business credit report as well. When you are a new business and try to apply for business lines of credit, or trade credit (i.e. Home Depot card), vendors and financial institutions generally ask for a personal guarantee before extending business credit to your company. If you have not checked on your personal credit reports, and there are mistakes, you may lose your ability to get business credit because of possible negative data. This also holds true for business credit reports. Dun & Bradstreet is the most well known of the business credit agencies and if false, or negative information is reported to D&B, you will also be denied credit. Financial institutions are looking to lend money to a business that is being reported as a good credit risk. It is critical that your personal and business creditworthiness are reported accurately with the credit agencies, and it is up to you to verify on a regular basis that all your financial activity is being reported accurately.

Free Credit Report

By Samantha Asher

If ever want to buy a house or a car, or if you ever want to start your own business and you don't have a ton of money to start, you will probably have to take out a loan some time or another. Unfortunately, getting a loan isn't always easy; it is a very complicated process.

Getting a loan is a long process. You have to first apply for the loan at the bank or other financial institution. They have to look through your application and records to see if you qualify for the loan before they decide if they will give you the money. It's kind of like the process of applying for a job.

The lender looks at several parts of your application and history to see if you will qualify for the loan. First, they want to see if your salary is sufficient to repay the loan. Next, they look at your credit. Preferably you will need excellent credit, but you can get a loan with just good credit. They look at your credit because they want to know that you are good for the money. If you don't pay it back, they will lose a lot of money. They want to be sure that you're trustworthy based on your history.

You have to make sure you have good credit history before you get a loan. In order to have good credit history, you need to always pay your bills on time. Even if you pay your bills just a couple of days late it can have a negative impact on your credit. Creditors and lenders want to know that they can trust you to pay them back.

If you have good credit or even just okay credit, you can probably get a loan, but you'll have to pay a higher interest rate then if you had excellent credit. This is because lenders look at you and decide that you'll probably pay them back, but just to be sure, they charge you a higher interest rate to make up for the possibility that you don't pay it all back.

With any investment, the less likely you will get back your money, the riskier it is. The same goes with other lenders. The worse your credit is the more risk they are taking by lending you money.

To be sure your credit is good, you should get a copy of your credit reports. Your credit reports are like report cards of your credit history. There are three different reports issued by three different bureaus. You are entitled to one free copy of each report once per year.

Check the link out below to get your free credit report. You should check your credit report to see your progress towards excellent credit, and to make sure there are no mistakes. If there are any mistakes, make sure you report them to the bureau.

Is it time to refinance?

By Peter Daas

Interest rates worldwide have dropped to all time lows. The national average interest rate for a refinanced mortgage in the US is around 5.5% right now. For homeowners, this means they could be saving serious money by refinancing right now.

Living conditions can be improved by refinancing and oftentimes, improvement of living conditions is in fact the goal of refinancing a mortgage. The money that is freed up can be used for a variety of purposes or financial goals. It can also be used to invest back into the house, by buying home improvement and increasing the value of the house.

Houses are not selling as quickly as they used to, so a couple of added improvements might mean your house will sell faster for a better price. In the current market you need all the help you can get, and a well finished home is a big help in selling. Using the money that is liberated by refinancing your mortgage for home improvement is a smart investment decision.

The refinance process is best done with the help of a mortgage expert. Don't make the mistake of choosing your lender based on the lowest refinance rate alone. Instead, look at the best mortgage options for your individual situation. The choice of a wrong mortgage can haunt you down the road when an unsuspected balloon payment may come up or when you have to take out another mortgage to cover the rest of the payments.

Auto Insurance Advice for Senior Citizens

By Tom Martens

Senior citizen is a term that means different things to different people. But however you define it, you still need to maintain proper insurance coverage. This is especially true if you drive. While insurance coverage can be expensive for many senior citizens to manage, there are ways in which you can lower your costs while maintaining the proper amount of coverage needed for your situation. Car insurance is required in order to legally drive, regardless of your age.

Sit down with an insurance agent, in person, and get a thorough review of your policy. Make very sure that your coverage still fits your needs. If you drive more, as in taking a long vacation to take advantage of falling gas prices, you might need more coverage. If you are driving less, it might be possible to get the coverage you need for a lower premium and save money while staying properly protected.

If you also maintain home and life insurance, consider getting all your policies from the same company. This practice is called bundling, and it is a good way to lower your premiums on all your policies. Bundling also makes paying easier, since you only have to keep track of bills from a single insurance provider. If you bundle all your policies, it is also possible to arrange a single due date, or staggered due dates, making it easier to pay premiums on a fixed income.

Inquire whether your insurance company offers senior citizen discounts. Many companies also offer discounts to members of groups like AARP, as well as other organizations. If you have more than one driver in your household, inquire about multiple driver discounts and discounts for multiple vehicles.

Never buy coverage you don't want, don't understand, or don?t' need. Many agents will try to sell you riders, that is, coverage for additional events that are often not necessary and always cost you more money. Never feel pressured into buying something you don't need. If you inform your agent that you are not interested in the rider and they insist you take it anyway, then it's time to find a new company.

It's also essential not to buy any coverage you do not understand. Ask questions and let the broker explain coverage until you do understand. There is no reason to be afraid or embarrassed if it takes several explanations for you to get something. Insurance is a complicated business. Also, be sure to get any promise in writing. Look over contracts carefully. Don't sign anything you don't like, didn't expect, or don't understand.

Finally, if you are not satisfied with your insurance provider, shop around and get new insurance quotes. Make sure your needs are met and that you have the insurance coverage you need without breaking your budget. Even if you are satisfied, it never hurts to shop around to see if you can get a better deal elsewhere.

No matter what your insurance requirements, be sure you always deal with a licensed insurance agent. He or she can examine your situation and offer you coverage that meets your individual insurance needs, as well as answer any questions.

Why a Fixed-rate Mortgage May Be Better for First-Time Homebuyer

By Amy Nutt

It's not uncommon for someone to look for the lowest price on any purchase that they are planning on making - this goes double for a major purchase and definitely applies to Canadian mortgage rates. People look for the lowest monthly payment they can get on a car, on an apartment and on a house - often the lowest monthly rate, at least at the start of the loan, will be with an adjustable rate mortgage so a lot of folks jump on this in favor of paying a lower out of pocket than they would be paying on a fixed rate loan. This can work very well in some situations, but with the current state of the economy in Canada - this may not be the best option for a first time home buyer.

When Adjustables can be good

If you are only planning on staying in your new home for a very short period of time and the current trend with adjustable rate mortgages is substantially lower than that of the lowest fixed rate mortgage that you can qualify for then the adjustable rate mortgage could work out well for your situation - or if you're exceedingly confident that nothing will make the rates rise during the duration of your stay at the home it could also be the better option - but this is practically impossible to predict.

Some people don't mind the unpredictability that goes along with an adjustable rate mortgage, they don't get flustered with every little fluctuation of the market and can handle the up and down trends with confidence that their rate will rebound. Owning a home can be a stressful situation, especially if it's your first home - if you don't think you can handle the uncertainty of your monthly payment, which could constantly be going up and down, along with all of the other common stresses that go along with home ownership - an adjustable rate mortgage may not be the best for you.

The Pros of a Fixed Rate Loan

With a fixed rate mortgage, you know exactly what you are in for - there will be no secrets or surprises when your statement comes, you bill will remain the same each month. For a first time homeowner this can relieve a lot of the stress associated with the added responsibility of paying for a home. Before you sign your name to the dotted line you can sit down with all of the facts and figures and develop a budget that you are confident that you'll have no trouble paying. With an adjustable rate mortgage, this stability and confidence is impossible to have - sure your rate could go down, but if it goes up will you be able to still pay it? With a fixed rate mortgage this is a question that you won't have to worry about answering.

Some people will say that being bound to an interest rate for the life of your loan can be a bad thing. The truth of the matter is, that rates often do fluctuate - they go up and down, but having a fixed rate loan isn't like a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole - if rates go down and stay down, you can consult your mortgage company about refinancing your loan to bring your current interest rate down. You may even be able to restructure your loan to pay less each month, while taking some equity out for necessary repairs or improvements at the same time. Locking yourself into a low rate should feel like a safety net, if you start seeing the rates drop after you've had your loan for a while - by all means, refinance and save yourself the money, but if the rates start to climb as the often do, you can rest easy that you are locked in at a good rate.

Your home should feel stable and secure, and with the current state of the economy in Canada things are very unpredictable. The best bet for a first time homebuyer is to compare mortgage rates for the lowest rate the can find and to lock it in for the duration of the loan - that way you'll be safe from any disasters that may occur in the near or distant future and free to make changes at a later date should they become necessary.

Consolidate Your Credit Cards

By Amanda Somrekli

By the end of two years, you'll probably be able to apply for a regular card once again because of your great score. Learning from your mistakes is crucial here because if you fail again, you'll be back in the same boat.

As long as it has the major logo from Visa and MasterCard, you'll be fine. If it doesn't, again, look for another card. There are a ton of cards out there. Check with your local bank, online and other places. As long as you do your research, you'll have no problem finding the perfect secured credit card.

If you're one of the millions looking to rebuild your credit out there, you may want to resort to a secured credit card. If you're already familiar with the cards, that's great! If you're not, I'll give you a quick cliff note version.

A secured card is just like a regular credit card but you're going to have to place a deposit on the account before you can use it. Whatever you put on the card is what your credit limit will be. For example, if you place $500 on the card, you can only spend $500.

Although most card companies would otherwise decline to issue a card to those with bad history, there are certain conditions that they might still accept your application. The truth of the fact is that there are different types of credit cards that are specifically issued to those with bad credit scores. One such card is the secured credit card.

When looking for that perfect card in the long haul, make sure that you find a card with next to no fees and always make sure that it reports to the major three bureaus. If you can do this, you'll find a great card for your wallet that will help build a better financial future for you and your family.

You might also consider applying for a debit card as another option to making a bad application since this kind of card does not have credit limits and you can spend as much as you want as long as there are sufficient funds in your banking account.

If for instance you apply for a loan when having a packed credit card you might lose some good 100 points from your credit score. You will need to run an effective credit repair, bringing your balance in a level smaller than the 30% of the limit of your card so as to optimize your overall score.

These are excellent indicators to guarantee your security and peace of mind when shopping online.Visa or Mastercard? There is not much to choose between either Visa or Mastercard; both are first class credit cards providing total security when shopping online.

All Visa asks you to do is enter your password, which you have selected when you sign up, then wait for confirmation of your identity and that's it, as simple as that!

Credit Repair Services vs. Do It Yourself Credit Repair

By John Cooper

When you are researching how to repair your credit report, you will have two choices. You can do it yourself or you can hire a service to do it on your behalf.

There are benefits to each approach. For do it yourself credit repair, you will be able to provide any additional evidence that an item is incorrect. Additionally you will be writing the letters yourself and saving money.

The drawbacks of doing it yourself are; it is very time consuming. This is because you will have to send a letter to each bureau for each negative mark. For example if you have one negative mark on each of your credit reports, you will have to send a letter to each credit bureau.

Another drawback is it will take a lot of organization; this is a result of bureaus not investigating upon receipt of the first dispute letter. It is common practice for the bureaus to respond with a letter requesting more information about the dispute, this is a stall tactic.

They have found this to be a more cost effective method, than to perform the investigations. This is because most individuals get frustrated and give up at this point.

Additionally it is common for individuals to dispute credit the wrong way. This means they will;

1. Mail dispute letters too frequently.

2. Supply a frivolous reason for the dispute.

3. Dispute too many items at one time.

One of the benefits of a service on your side is; they have a comprehensive knowledge of the credit laws. These can frequently be used to help you and more effectively remove derogatory credit.

This is how services work; you will forward a copy of your credit report and mark what items you wish to dispute. The service will write a letter and send it off to the bureaus.

They will continue to send letters and overcome any stall tactics the bureaus typically use. You will then receive deletion letters from the bureaus.

You will forward these letters to the service and this process will continue. They will do all the organization, and provide you with a contact if you want to talk with someone about your case.

In addition they have more advanced dispute techniques than an individual. For example a service can use; escalated dispute information requests, debt validation, and creditor direct intervention.

In sum we suggest a service because they are professionals. However either method is good and can help you repair your damaged credit report. Stop just living with the high cost of low credit.

Credit Card Payments

By Amanda Somrekli

When you have submitted your application for a credit card the card issuer will first examine your credit standing and will simply approve your application when they are convinced that your credit score is high enough to be meriting to be issued the card.

Credit card debts reduction did not mean that creditors are going to wipe off consumers debts. It means that a process through which consumers can get credit card debt reduction to feel more relaxation in their life.

While credit card fine print is notoriously dense and difficult to read, it is legally binding, and it is important that you read and understand this fine print before you accept a credit card which may have extremely onerous terms.

The first part of the credit card offer you should read is known as a Schumer box. This is a table with easily read and understood information about rates, fees and penalties. This box includes annual fee, annual percentage rate (APR) for purchases, APR for other purposes, such as balance transfer and cash advances, grace period for purchases, finance calculation method, and transaction fees. All credit cards must provide a Schumer box, all following the same format.

Two findings of this study are particularly important if you are a victim of identity theft. First, and perhaps most obvious, the sooner the theft is found out, the less severe the losses, both in terms of time and money.

No matter how many credit cards you have, and no matter what your credit history is, no matter how many payments you've made on time or not on time, no matter how many late fees you've paid or not paid, it doesn't matter. The standard advice from the experts is NOT to close any credit card account.

It makes good sense to find a credit card that offers this perk, particularly if you are a frequent online shopper. It insures you against loss, theft or damage from the moment you buy until your purchases are delivered to your front door.

The advantage to using gas credit cards far outweighs any disadvantages. You can use the cards at the pumps and save time. You can use the cards at affiliate gas stations and you can have a monthly detailed report of your spending.

When you carry the gas card around, you do not have to worry about carrying money around. You can use the card for your purchase and have the security of knowing your money is safe in the bank or at home. You have all the benefits of using your credit card and seeing where your money goes.

Most people will give approved for these cards but in order to receive them, you'll have to provide a deposit anywhere from $250 - $500. As long as you pay your bills off on time and don't spend over your head, you can see your credit score improve drastically over the next few months.

Types of Home Foreclosure

By Doc Schmyz

Your mortgage is the most important bill we have to pay every month. Besides credit card bills, we also have to make sure we don't miss our other monthly payments. Unfortunately paying with plastic makes it difficult to track our expenses and easier to splurge on shopping sprees. When we fail to pay the mortgage; foreclosure happens and we lose our home.

Foreclosure...what exactly is it?

When you miss a number of payments; your mortgage lender has the right to foreclose on the home by selling or repossessing the property.

In most cases the usual number of payments that borrowers miss before their house goes into foreclosure is 3 months. In other cases the lender may accelerate the payment to give the borrower a chance to settle his or her debt/catch up on missed payments. They will require the borrower to pay all the missed payments at once.

There are different types of foreclosure that lenders can do.

Judicial foreclosure

In this case the lender sues the homeowner. If the owner of the house does not respond to the lawsuit, the lender wins. The property is then put up for auction. A court official will be in charge of the auction. Participants will have to compete with the mortgage lenders bid. If no one out bids the mortgage lender he repossesses the house. Otherwise, the deed will go to the highest bidder. This is normally referred to as a "courthouse auction".

Foreclosure by the power of sale

The deed of the house goes directly back to the mortgage lender. The house is then sold by a real estate agent. Proceeds earned from the sale will be used for paying off the amount owed by the former homeowner. In the event proceeds are not enough to cover the mortgage amount the lender will issue a deficiency judgment.

The deficiency judgment is the amount left after the proceeds from the sale cover the mortgage owed by the previous homeowner. The previous homeowner is liable for it.

Strict foreclosure

The court orders the borrower to pay the mortgage in a certain period of time. If the borrower fails the property will go directly back to the mortgage lender without any obligation to sell it.

Judicial and foreclosure by power of sale are the most commonly used methods in United States. Other states use other methods. Strict foreclosure was originally used but is now only utilized by a few states such as Vermont and New Hampshire.

How Life Insurance Premiums Are Calculated

By Tom Martens

Life insurance is difficult enough to understand, but understanding how company computes your premiums is even harder. Calculating your life insurance rates is not as simple and straightforward as calculating your premiums for other kinds of risk, like fire insurance. The rates you pay for life insurance coverage are based on your state of health at the time you apply for the policy, and that risk assessment is made by a qualified medical professional. If you are not in good fit, or if you indulge in risky behaviors such as smoking or street drugs, the insurance company expects to have to pay out more benefits on your policy than if you were totally healthy and did nothing to put your health at risk. That is the reason insurance companies usually require a physical exam before issuing your life insurance policy.

Once the results of the exam are, the company will review not only those findings, but also your family's medical history, your personal driving history, and probably records of your health insurance claims and credit score as well.

In addition to the medical and driving reports, your insurance provider will also have you fill out a questionnaire about your health and lifestyle. Be honest when answering the questions and providing your medical history. If you are found to have lied on your questionnaire, then it could keep your policy claim from being paid in the future. An insurance provider may also cancel your life insurance policy if they find out that you lied during the quote process.

From all these reports, the insurance company assigns you a score reflecting your risk. That is why the premium you actually pay may not be the same as the quote the agent gives you when you apply for coverage. If the company finds that you are at a higher risk level than originally assumed, your premium will almost certainly be higher than your quote.

There are ways to lower your risk. Take care of your health. Maintain a healthy weight, eat a well-balanced diet and exercise regularly. If you smoke, then quit. Be a safe and defensive driver. Don?t get speeding tickets or into accidents that can raise your insurance premiums. Make smart decisions and don?t engage in dangerous, risky behavior.

The insurance company also considers factors outside your control, like gender and age, in computing your premiums. That is why it is so important for you to do everything possible to improve your health and lower your risk. It's a good idea to do your research, ask several rounds of questions, and get several quotes before choosing your life insurance policy.

Bad Credit Lenders

By Tom Peters

There are times when a bad credit lender comes in handy. In hard times, they serve a useful purpose. And what's called "bad credit lending" can vary. Also, so do the standards for what truly is bad credit. Most of the time anybody with a credit score below 500 is thought to have bad credit. This is according to the Fair Isaac Credit Organization (FICO).

Credit Ranking Services: There are three big credit ranking services out there: TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. Each has its own formula for developing what's called a "FICO score." What's known is that scores from the three usually are within twelve or so points of each other, most of the time. Additionally, scores are generated using several different inputs.

Giving Loans to People With Bad Credit: There are many lenders out there who specialize in people who may have bad credit scores. Known, as "sub-prime lenders," they're able to many times give a loan when most traditional lenders can't or won't. But, their loans can cost more, in terms of interest. Still, people of high character but poor credit, for one reason or another, may need to use these lenders. This is especially true in tough times.

Varying Lending Rates: Because the risk to the lender is greater, the interest rates on these loans can be higher. Sometimes by a lot, as illustrated by loans that go right to the interest limits set by law. You should check around, though, to see if one of these sub-prime lenders will offer a better rate before signing any loans.

Watch Out for Predatory Lending: Bad credit lending as a practice definitely has its place at the financing table. After all, some truly good people get caught up in bad circumstances and have nowhere else to go. Be careful, that you don't get into problmatic predatory lending such as exorbitant late fees, huge down payments, suspicious or nonexistent "service charges," and the like.

And you might ask why?

Because for someone who has been missing payments regularly and hasn't been current for a while, sometimes a wake-up call with a foreclosure notice (combined with a helping hand from you to help them with a loan modification) is what prompts them to get their act together, take control of their situation, and to work their way out of their delinquency.

Don't fall into the same trap the investor I talked to did.

1 Exit Strategy for your Defaulted Mortgage Buying business will not work. It will not be enough to make you successful.
